What did George Clooney’s mother in law say to the Daily Mail?
MediaEntertainmentSociety
EXCLUSIVE – ‘She can do better': Amal Alamuddin’s mother ‘is unimpressed with George Clooney and wants daughter to marry within their strict Lebanese religious sect’ – dailymail.co.uk Exclusive: Clooney responds to ‘Daily Mail’ report – usatoday.com
Baria Alamuddin, George Clooney’s mother in law is part of the Druze sect of Islam, and wanted her daughter to marry within that religion, as is tradition. She also thinks her daughter could have done better. The Daily Mail have made this story up, and it is very dangerous for them to have done so, as it invokes the death of the bride for marrying out of that religious sect.
The value of organic foods vs social perception

The tyranny of the organic mommy mafia – nypost.com The Assault on Organics – fair.org
Some parents are becoming aggressive organic food evangelizers, even though there is no indication that organic food is better for us in any way. Just because normal food hasn’t been found to harm us, doesn’t mean it is as good as organic. Many published papers have found a range of benefits of eating organic.
rbutr Salad
Got $10 for Potato Salad? Nah, have $59,000 instead. Seriously.

So this one is here just for a little bit of fun and to show rbutr isn’t only for serious discussions. I’m sure most of you have heard about the Potato Salad Kickstarter which has raised $59,000 already (24 days to go still!). Anyway, after 2 years of funding rbutr out of our own pockets, we’ve reached the point where we are going to need additional funding to help us get to the next stage. In a couple of months time we will be running our own crowdfunding campaign, and if we can’t beat a potato salad, I think I will cry…

So stay subscribed to find out when we launch that, and follow us on the usual social media channels: Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus.

Environment
Antarctica is gaining a lot of sea ice – but only in area covered, not in total amount.

Global warming computer models confounded as Antarctic sea ice hits new record high with 2.1million square miles more than is usual for time of year – dailymail.co.uk David Rose and the Antarctic sea ice misrepresentation? – wordpress.com
The levels of Antarctic sea-ice last week hit an all-time high – confounding climate change computer models which say it should be in decline. What David Rose is referring to is the increase is sea ice area, not volume. The Arctic is losing sea ice volume at 10 times the rate that the Antarctic is gaining it.
Video Games
Sony vs Microsoft: Who cares the most about their customers?
GamesTechnology
And This is Why Sony Cares More About Gamers Than Microsoft – gameskinny.com Rebuttal: Does Sony care more about gamers than Microsoft? – gamezone.com
Sony cares much more about their customers because they take a loss on most of their games, just so they can continue to support fresh promising talent. The article does very little to support its claim that Sony takes better care of its customers than Microsoft, relying entirely on the one point that they take a loss on most of their games. Microsoft do a lot more than just that though.
Are women just objects for use in computer games, or do computer games portray everyone as objects?

Women as Background Decoration: Part 1 – Tropes vs Women – youtube.com ‘Feminism’ Vs FACTS (Anita Sarkeesian DESTROYED!) – youtube.com
Computer games have been using women as decorative backgrounds for decades. This video explores the sexualised object trope used in computer games. Any person can be a subject or an object depending on how you view them, and in computer games far more men are objectified than women.
Technology
Amazon vs Hachette continues. Now we hear from some best selling authors too!
AmazonBooksTechnology
Child, Grisham, Patterson in Amazon protest – thebookseller.com One-Percent Authors Want To End Destructive Conflict, Bring Order to the Galaxy – techdirt.com
A number of bestselling authors have written an open letter to Amazon criticizing the way they have treated the publishing agency Hachette, and the authors published by Hachette. Amazon has sold more books than any, made publishing more accessible than anyone else, established the e-book market, and is the company authors should be siding with in this dispute, not the corporate giant publishing company Hachette.
Are e-readers already being replaced by other devices?
e-readere-bookTechnology
The E-Reader Death Watch Begins – slate.com Death of the e-reader? – tysonadams.com
More people carry smart phones and tablets with them all the time now, so e-readers are becoming less popular, and the sales of them are declining. Sales of e-readers will decline not because they are less popular, but because the market has matured. People only buy one e-reader, so you can’t keep selling them to the same people.
Terrorism
Terrorists are always looking for new ways to bomb us – or old ways. Whatever works really.

Terrorists Team Up in Syria to Build Next Generation of Bombs – abcnews.go.com Toothpaste Terrorism? Been There, Done That – fair.org
Just outside of Syria, al Qaeda linked terrorists are working to develop a new generation of bombs which can be smuggled aboard commercial planes. Far from being a “new generation,” the toothpaste tube bomb has been around for almost four decades.
